HELLO FRIENDS.
I'm popping my head back in here to have a bit of a gush about Broadchurch/Doctor Who, plus what happened in my general life these past few months. I do say this a lot, but I really need to be on here more often, don't I?
First on the agenda, Broadchurch.
I watched the first series in almost one go last Christmas. Loved it to bits, and the twist was an absolute surprise to me.
I started the second series around springtime, but the near-constant barrage of emotional blows it dealt me made it too painful to continue watching. There's only so much horrible fictional trauma this girl can take, after all.
However! This afternoon, spurred on by the excellence of the new Doctor (more on that later), I decided to give it another shot. Picking up from episode four I dived back in, with the familiar feeling of utter despair settling in sharpish. How could literally everything be so terrible? How has everyone survived this without counselling? Why hasn't Miller had a breakdown? One positive development I was grateful for, however, was the healing of Miller and Beth's relationship. Them hugging, consoling each other after the verdict, and that final scene on the beach were just <3333
That cabin scene! It looked like they were going to kill him (and they all made it clear that they definitely would) but Beth's speech was so fucking powerful, and Miller's barely restrained hatred was palpable. I can't stress how good the acting is in this show, really. Everyone in this (and they have got all 13 British actors in this show) gave their best performance. Bravo!
On another Chibnall related note, Doctor Who! Thirteen is like Ten but with her no-mercy-to-the-enemy instincts better hidden from the companions (that showdown in the warehouse, anyone?!) Basically, I love her to bits and can't wait for the angsty character development that is inevitable in any Chibnall-led project to surface. One of daydreams I've been having recently is imagining Thirteen meeting her previous companions who crushed on her, and the antics which ensue. I.e., they lez up. But it's not just me..! There's already a glut of fic made about that very subject, with most of it concerning Rose. (Again, the 10-13 link!) Here are some of my favourites.
Regarding my own life, a lot has happened since we last spoke! One of my dear friend's has had his cancer all sucked away (technical term there), my babiest twin brothers are starting at a new school (I'm going to be somewhere in my mid-thirties when do their GCSEs, fuckin hell...) and I started my Welsh learning proper! Have a Halloween Bash to attend tomorrow, so that should be a laugh.
Uhhh, suddenly can't think of anything else to say... bye!
