Birthday summary post, because I'm very excited and want to share these feelings.
TICKETS TO SEE FLIGHT OF THE CONCORDS!!!!
I'm still not over this, I mean, what? Me? Getting to see some of my favourite comedy boys?? With new material?? It's all my dreams come true and more. The fact that it's happening to me, I mean, the only comedian I've ever seen live was Joe Lycett's work-in-progress show, and that was only this August. I've never even seen a band before. This is madness. Broke down a bit when I was told, mostly due to overwhelming feelings of being loved and shit. Pure madness.
In other news, I saw Paddington 2 today! It restored my faith in modern children's films and was just generally so... pure? If you're feeling down, go watch it. (Also, all the comedy usual's are in it, including Jessica Hynes, Richard Ayoade, Simon Farnaby, and the writers of so many britcoms were in the Special Thanks. I mean, it was co-written and directed by long-time Mighty Boosh handler Paul King, so what can I say.)
.
- Bridget Christie's book, A Book For Her, is excellent and I urge everyone to go out and read it. (It's been just over a week and I've almost finished it, which for me is some kind of miracle.) Basically, it's funny feminism with a sprinkling of anecdotes that reads like a stand up routine (probably due to the fact it is one) and has me smiling to myself on the bus, and getting a lot of strange looks. Just, go and read it! You can thank me later.
- Both of Richard Ayoade's films, which have yet to be watched.
- I got so many CDs, like wow. Firstly, both series of Cowards! Gotta love those lads. Been listening to them while doing my coursework and found myself having to put my pen down on multiple occasions because I was laughing so hard. Highlights include: man living with aggressive bear; general weird peer pressure sketches that end with somebody killing themselves out of the need to be polite; that mouse sketch; and best of all "how does folding my clothes make me gay, when I've slept with five girls this year and only one man?!"
- Also, both series of Mark Watson Makes the World Substantially Better! I've almost finished the first one with Tim Minchin and it's brilliant~! Mark's still doing his faux-Welsh accent in this which took a bit of getting used to, but now I just find it (and by extension, him) very charming.
- Probably the best gift (to myself, admittedly) is the Series one DVD disc-set for Fist of Fun. I've lapsed back into my Lee and Herring obsession recently and this has been a terrible enabler. I mean, 17 hours of content? There should be a health warning on the sleeve, for god's sake.
