8266/21185The mysterious Hitchin stoner poet struck again today. I was walking the dog this evening, after a bit of a fractious and annoying day when he appeared out of nowhere and asked for Wolfie's name. He sat beside me and offered me another poem and it would be rude to say no. Also there's a 10% chance he might kill me if I did. "Fucking listen then!" he shouted, before laughing and saying he was only kidding. He's a nice guy and I like him a lot. But still, 10%.He stopped to light up a cigarette that I suspect might have been illegal.

[personal profile] doreyg reminded me of a detail in the first Danganronpa that means, if you do certain Free Time events, Naegi's probably going to end up blaming himself for the events of the second chapter. This fic grew out of that thought!

I really struggled with which names to use for this fic! Naegi has always been Naegi in my head, but there are other characters heavily involved who I think of by their given names, rather than their family names. I ended up going with the conventions of the official English release, referring to everyone by given name, but I can't tell you how many times I accidentally wrote 'Naegi' instead of 'Makoto'.

Title: a little too late

Summary: It's the second case. Makoto pieces some things together.

Who would have thought that a bridge named after me (it really was - thanks for backing the internet campaign) would prove to be useless?
Another great run of studio podcasts, starting with Mr Tarrant, who seemed less confused about what was going on that yesterday. We both arrived early so I popped out to get him a coffee to show deference to the Alpha male and rightly so.

Spotlight on Tag Wrangling

AO3 Tag Wranglers continue to test processes for wrangling canonical additional tags (tags that appear in the auto-complete) which don't belong to any particular fandom (also known as "No Fandom" tags). This post will provide an overview of some of these upcoming changes.

Previous Tag Wrangling updates can generally be found on the @ao3org Tumblr and, for No Fandom tags, AO3 News. While No Fandom tag updates are generally announced on AO3 News as well as the @ao3org Tumblr, this may not be true of all wrangling updates. Some updates may remain solely distributed via Tumblr, especially those that only affect one or two fandoms. The way we distribute updates is subject to change as we work through new processes.

During this round of updates, we began a method which streamlines creation of new canonical tags, prioritizing more straightforward updates which would have less discussion compared to renaming current canonical tags or creating new canonical tags which touch on more complex topics. This method also reviews new tags on a regular basis, so check back on AO3 News for periodic "No Fandom" tag announcements.

None of these updates change the tags users have added to works. If a user-created tag is considered to have the same meaning as a new canonical, it will be made a synonym of one of these newly created canonical tags, and works with that user-created tag will appear when the canonical tag is selected.

In short, these changes only affect which tags appear in AO3's auto-complete and filters. You can and should continue to tag your works however you prefer.

New Canonicals

The following concepts have been made new canonical tags:

In Conclusion

While all these new tags have already been made canonical, we are still working on implementing changes and connecting relevant tags, so it’ll be some time before these updates are complete. We thank you in advance for your patience!

While we won't be announcing every change we make to No Fandom canonical tags, you can expect similar updates in the future on the tags we believe will most affect users. If you're interested in the changes we'll be making, you can check AO3 News, follow us on Bluesky @wranglers.archiveofourown.org, Twitter/X @ao3_wranglers, or Tumblr @ao3org for future announcements.

You can also read previous updates on "No Fandom" tags, linked below:

For more information about AO3's tag system, check out our Tags FAQ.

In addition to providing technical help, Support also handles requests related to how tags are sorted and connected. If you have questions about specific tags, which were first used over a month ago and are unrelated to any of the new canonical tags listed above, please contact Support instead of leaving a comment on this post.

Lastly, as mentioned above, we are still working on connecting relevant user-created tags to these new canonicals. If you have questions about specific tags which should be connected to these new canonicals, please refrain from contacting Support about them until at least two months from now.

Superman 2025 thoughts, no spoilers

petra: Superman looking downward with a pensive expression (Clark - Beautiful night)
[personal profile] petra
If the new Superman movie had included Súperman es Ilegal (lyrics in English and Spanish in video), even just a little bit, I might've felt all the whiners were justified in saying how woke it is. It's a charming movie with compelling performances, but "woke" is a serious overstatement by people who can't handle characters who aren't white dudes doing things.

This Ma and Pa Kent were my favorite iterations of themselves outside of comics, and I fully believed that this Clark would say, "Dang."

If you like your superheroes a little too clean-cut and a lot too earnest, you, too, may enjoy this flick.

8264/21183We left the old folks behind after lunch. Both of them 88 years old - my dad three weeks from being 89. They wanted me to take a photo of them before I left. "Last chance for a photo. Last time we'll see you," I joked, because that's the kind of funny joke I make. But I've been predicting my or my family's deaths for 40 years, every time I've left.I'll get it right one of these days.In reality I refuse to accept that any of us will ever die.I don't want to tempt fate, but prove me wrong, fate, you stupid prick.

8263/2118258 years old, he was.
Happy 88th birthday to Bill Cosby. Happy 58th Birthday to Me. Happy 28th Birthday to Malala. Generation by generation we're getting better. There's a minus 2 year old out there who is going to do something very special.
A lovely lazy (for me) birthday day in my parents' garden, with my family. After lunch everyone else had gone in and I lay back in a reclining chair looking at the blue sky.Two white butterflies flew into view, circling one another, surely in love.

I had the opportunity to go to a concert of his recently and enjoyed his part of the show exceedingly. The opening act, Puddles Pity Party, was very much not my thing, alas, but Mr. Yankovic is exuberantly himself, the costume changes are lolarious, and the music is inimitably Weird. If you like his work, you'll almost certainly like his concert. Extra points awarded for the songs (not all of them, alas) that had text videos, effectively functioning as closed captioning with a sense of humor.

Also, the audience was full of people wearing extremely cheerful shirts, and made great viewing.

I have not seen the most recent Murderbot yet, but I did spot David Dastmalchian as John Deacon in a clip of Weird-the-biopic which was played at the concert, so that's almost the same thing, right? I was very proud of my facial recognition software for picking up on that. I would like to belatedly award points to the casting department for finding a way to get another MENA-descended person into Queen, which is a great joke I didn't get at the time.

I loved the new Murderbot short story, which I read aloud to my SO.

8262/21181It€s sitting in first class when you have a standard class ticket now, grandad!
Off to Cheddar for my birthday weekend. This month it's 50 years since my family moved here, which means it's also 50 years since I had my goodbye birthday party in Loughborough and played cricket in the park with my friends for the last time and dad, who was the umpire, caught me out first ball and insisted that counted. Loughborough schools had broken up when we departed, but Cheddar schools had not.

8261/21180Of course the cough decided to burrow a little deeper and get a little less dry today. I will beat this thing if it kills me.
Time to break my silence on Stuart Cox. A lot of you have been asking what I think about him. Cox by name, Cox by nature? Stuart by name, Pooart by nature?
Stuart is, of course, the guy who has taken it upon himself to destroy the cairns, set up by (on the face of it) pure and noble stone-clearers in the Peak District.

8260/21179Oh my God, after more than three months I think I might finally have shaken off this lurgy. Admittedly it hasn't been too bad for the last month- I've just had a slightly nasty phlegmy cough and been a bit tired (but is that illness or just being a dad in his late-fifties?) Today though, no cough to speak of and suddenly some energy.Though I am sure I said the same thing about six weeks ago. The ghost of the cough remains, dry now and occasional, but ready to burrow back into me if I get complacent.W

8259/21178I am recording quite a few book podcasts in the next few days (plus a couple of regular eps) and so I find myself trying to read four books before Monday (and I am away for my birthday weekend - I am going to be 58 NOT 60!) Luckily Cariad Lloyd's book is for kids and very short (but blimey it packs a punch. It's called "Where Did She Go?" and is an attempt to explain death to children. I've read it twice and it's made me cry both times).

8258/21177Is today a good day to admit that I never had testicular cancer?Yes I spent the last four years lying about my life in order to sell millions of books and get a film where Jason Isaacs plays my excised bollock. I did take a ball off just to make the story look real.

8257/21176Yes, AI is a force for evil (by which I mean Artificial Intelligence, not Al Murray... although...) but I used it the other day to create that mock up of me being 60 with a birthday cake, so I could be like all the other celebs on Facebook. And while I had the app open I wondered whether AI was getting any closer to putting me out of a job.So I asked it to come up with a full stand up show script  for "Oh Shit I'm 60!" so that I didn't have to write it. And to say it came up trumps is to do the thing a disservice.

8256/21175A blistering RHLSTP tonight with the force of nature that is Bernie Clifton. What an extraordinary and lovely man he is. The show was reminiscent of Brian Blessed, though much gentler, as Bernie insisted on taking us through seemingly every detail of his life. Yet it was hypnotically fascinating and uproariously funny and my job was easy.
